LGN Associate Madison Gaffney Has Impressive Finish in Boston Marathon

LGN associate Madison Gaffney took on the infamous Boston Marathon course alongside 30,000 other qualifiers this week with an impressive finish time of 3:16. She had many fans in the crowd cheering her on, complete with large cutouts of her LGN headshot!

A highlight of the race for Madison was reaching the top of Heartbreak Hill, the well-known incline at mile 20 that challenges even the most experienced runners.

Congratulations to Madison on this outstanding achievement.

Lockridge Grindal Nauen (LGN) is pleased to share that associate Emma Ritter Gordon has been published in the George Washington Journal of Law and Technology (GW JOLT). Her article appears in the journal’s second volume and was co-authored with Kristin Oakley.


The article, TransUnion’s Effect on Standing in Data Privacy Cases: An Empirical Study of Federal Appellate Cases, 2021-2024, examines how federal appellate courts have applied Article III standing requirements in data privacy cases following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in TransUnion v. Ramirez, 594 U.S. 413 (2021). Using a hand-coded approach, the article provides an empirical analysis of how federal courts of appeals have interpreted the “concrete harm” requirement in data privacy litigation following this seminal case.

The George Washington University Law School–based Journal of Law and Technology publishes scholarship addressing legal issues involving emerging technologies, privacy, and data security. Gordon and Oakley’s article examines how courts have applied standing requirements in cases involving alleged data-privacy harms between 2021 and 2024.

“I’m pleased with how the article turned out,” Gordon said. “Our goal was to provide academics and practitioners an on-the-ground analysis of how courts have applied TransUnion in data privacy cases. In the process, we uncovered an emerging circuit split.”

Support the Neighborhood House March Food Drive

Demand for food support remains high across our community. Each month, Neighborhood House serves approximately 1,500 to 1,700 unique households through its food programs and distributes roughly 100,000 pounds of food to individuals and families in need.

To help address food insecurity in Saint Paul, LGN is once again raising funds for the March Food Drive organized by Neighborhood House. Based in Saint Paul, Neighborhood House is a multi-service nonprofit that has supported immigrants, refugees, and low-income families since 1897, and LGN has proudly supported its work for more than a decade.

Through two free food markets and additional Saturday food distributions at the Wellstone Center, Neighborhood House continues to provide consistent access to healthy, culturally preferred foods for families throughout the community.

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is proud to share that partner Dave Zoll has been honored as one of Minnesota Lawyer’s Attorneys of the Year for 2025 for his work on the legislative quorum litigation before the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Dave received the award at Minnesota Lawyer’s annual banquet on 2/5/2026, joined by several LGN colleagues who attended to celebrate this significant achievement.

The award recognizes Dave’s leadership in a landmark case that addressed fundamental constitutional questions and led to one of the most consequential Minnesota Supreme Court decisions of 2025. We are proud to recognize Dave and the team that supported this significant work.

LGN Partner David Asp Reappointed to Minnesota Campaign Finance Board

We are proud to recognize LGN partner David Asp for his continued public service and leadership.

David recently was re-appointed to the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board and subsequently elected to serve as Chair of the Board for 2026. First appointed to the Board by Governor Walz in 2022, David previously completed a one-year term as Chair and continues to guide the Board’s work during this election year.

The Board oversees Minnesota’s campaign finance reporting, public disclosure requirements, and related compliance matters, helping ensure transparency and integrity in the state’s political process.

We congratulate David on his appointment and election as chair and commend his continued commitment to public service.

David Zoll Named 2025 “Attorney of the Year” by Minnesota Lawyer

We’re proud to share that David Zoll, partner at Lockridge Grindal Nauen PLLP., has been named a 2025 Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer.

David earned this recognition for his leadership in the high‑profile “Quorum Lawsuits”—a landmark constitutional case heard by the Minnesota Supreme Court. Serving as lead outside counsel for Minnesota House leadership, he worked closely with an outstanding team from the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and the Office of the Secretary of State.

The case tackled core questions about the constitutional requirements for a quorum in the State House. David’s work helped secure a ruling that clarified the 68‑member majority requirement, strengthening the legislative process for Minnesotans.

As the only private‑practice attorney involved, David’s selection highlights LGN’s commitment to supporting public institutions with top‑tier legal counsel during critical moments.
